Dave Weston Junior narrowly missed out on a top 20 finish on the GEKO Ypres Rally this weekend, when his Subaru Impreza N2010 gave in to centre diff problems with only 11km left to go.

Dave Weston Junior has paid credit to the Ramsport team for their outstanding efforts on this weekend’s Jim Clark International Rally, changing a gearbox, driveshaft and diff during a short service to ensure he finished the event.

Dave Weston Junior has entered this weekend’s Manx Telecom Rally as an asphalt test.

The event comes three weeks before the Jim Clark International Rally, the first asphalt round of the 2010 Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship.

We have carried out a full bare-shell rebuild on this car over the last 4 weeks, then on Tuesday of this week, new owner Barry Gale and ex owner Mark Higgins carried out a very successful shakedown up on the Ranges.

The car will now be taken to Portsmouth to be shipped over to the Caribbean for Barry to use on local events.

Impressive IRC debut for Junior

Dave Weston Junior says he could have pushed harder on Rally of Scotland, despite the fantastic stage times he put in on the inaugural British IRC event.

The Scottish teenager set a top four stage time and ran fourth overall behind IRC champion Kris Meeke and former British champions Guy Wilks and Alister McRae, before retiring.

Dave Weston Junior has taken his first event win after putting in a late entry for today’s Malton Forest Rally in Yorkshire.

Junior and his co-driver Ieuan Thomas grabbed the win in their Ramsport-run Subaru Impreza, despite suffering problems throughout the event.

“The Malton may only be one morning’s rallying, but it’s a tough competitive event on great stages with a great entry list,” said Junior. “We had problems with our centre diff. While it was all annoying at the time, now all that combines to make taking my first rally win on this event all the more pleasing. My dad’s won this event in the past, so it’s also great to get the Weston name back on the list of winners.”

There were last minute dramas for Dave Weston Junior on Rally of Great Britain after he set notable stage times, only to be robbed of an event finish going into the final stage.

Despite not finishing, Junior, who was competing in the PWRC section of the field for the LMT/Vergina Inforally Team, is looking at the positive side of the experience.

Highs and lows for Junior in Yorkshire

Dave Weston Junior has finished his first year in the British Rally Championship an impressive fourth overall in the points.

Throughout the year he has made it his only goal to use the 2009 season as a learning year in terms of writing his own pacenotes and perfecting his craft on the stages, but his ability to keep cool head and his keen desire to expand his rallying knowledge has led to him finishing the year in a points position above many drivers who have much more experience of the BRC.

The final round of the championship was International Rally Yorkshire, which Junior finished fifth in on Saturday.
